Cafe Connect We offer exciting opportunities to learn new skills and find out more about using computers. We offer help and advice on how to use computer packages and surfing the internet. Individual or group training sessions are available. People are welcome to access the IT facilities for their own interest or just to surf the internet. Community Based ESL English language provision for speakers of other languages who are permanent residents or refugees. Courses run from one day a week to full-time and cater for a range of interests such as: General English; Preparation for Work or Vocational Training; Computers; Drama and Public Service Interpreting. Courses are run in a variety of community-based centres, some of which have crèches.

Computing Classes are run at several local community venues including SENET Internet Learning Centre (at Gilmerton Community Centre), Cafe Connect (at Gracemount Leisure Centre), Burdiehouse & Southhouse Community Centre and Goodtrees Neighbourhood Centre. Jewel & Esk Valley College The college is one of Scotland’s largest colleges of further education.The college delivers full time and part time courses, day release, evening classes, short courses and open and flexible learning. We offer advanced diplomas, HNDs, HNCs and NCs. We have Access courses, Highers, SVQs and Skillseekers. Our Student Services team can provide you with advice and guidance on which course to choose, finance and careers and anything relating to the college and education.

2nd Chance to Learn offers free courses for adults who have missed out on education and want to find new directions. We offer: Core Skills; Steps - combines the Core Skills course with the European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) and work preparation at Standard Life. Computing. A range of IT courses is offered from basic computing for beginners ECDL and web design; Childcare - SQA units.

Scottish Wider Access Programme SWAP offers access to further and higher education to adults (over 21) with few or no qualifications. The programme, specially designed for adult returners to education, runs at Further Education Colleges all over Scotland. Most are one-year full-time courses but more part-time courses are becoming available. Successful completion of the programme means a guaranteed place on an HN or degree course at college or university.

Workers Educational Association The WEA offers informal courses for adults of all ages. Courses include confidence building, return to learning/ study, women’s studies, community history, political studies, creative writing and art workshops, music and ‘Pre-Retirement’. Some of our courses are free and a crèche facility and respite care is sometimes available.
