One Parent Families Scotland Our voluntary
organisation supports lone parents throughout Scotland and offers information
through factsheets and telephone support. In Edinburgh, the Counsellor
and Lone Parent Support Worker can offer one-to-one interviews. Topics
covered include Going Back to Work, Housing, Legal
Issues, Money for Lone Parent Students in Higher Education,
Working Families Tax Credit and information on Educational
Trust Funds and Family Need. A Sure Start funded project
provides support and activities for lone fathers with pre-school children.

Scottish Wider Access Programme SWAP
offers access to further and higher education to adults (over 21) with
few or no qualifications. The programme, specially designed for adult returners
to education, runs at Further Education Colleges all over Scotland. Most
are one-year full-time courses but more part-time courses are becoming
available. Successful completion of the programme means a guaranteed place
on an HN or degree course at college or university.

Second Chance to Learn offers free
courses for adults who have missed out on education and want to find new
directions. We offer: Core Skills; Steps - combines the Core Skills course
with the European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) and work preparation
at Standard Life. Computing. A range of IT courses is offered from basic
computing for beginners ECDL and web design; Childcare - SQA units.

Workers Educational Association The WEA offers informal courses for adults of all ages.
